Bicycle Patrol

The department uses the skills of several well trained bicycle-borne police officers to patrol the parks, shopping areas, and neighborhoods. The bicycles are carried on the back of a police car as an extension of the vehicle itself, which provides an easy-to-access tool for the officer to "reach out" into the community or for him/her to patrol in a unique covert manner.

The bicycle patrol officers are trained and certified by the International Police Mountain Bike Association under the careful supervision of Sergeant Callese, a certified IPMBA trainer. The department has trained and certified other Lake, McHenry and Cook County Police Departments.
