Waste Disposal & Recycling

Groot Industries is the new waste hauler for the Village of Round Lake Beach as of July 1, 2023

The previous agreement with Waste Management for Residential Waste Collection Services expired on June 30, 2023. The Village sent an RFP for Residential Waste Collection Services on January 24, 2023, and awarded a 5-year contract to Groot Industries on April 17, 2023.

Three waste haulers submitted proposals, Groot Industries, Waste Management, and Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LSR). Groot Industries' proposal was most beneficial to the Village’s residents with the same service levels that all the haulers submitted.

2023 Leaf Collection

Beginning October 16, Groot will collect an unlimited number of bagged leaves from each Residential Customer for a period of six weeks at no additional charge. The leaves must be properly packed in paper compost bags. These must be leaves only - no grass clippings, sticks, etc.

Additional information can be found on Groot's Website.

DocumentRecycling Contamination Reduction ProgramThe Village and SWALCO are asking Round Lake Beach residents to help keep unacceptable materials such as plastic bags and plastic wrap out of their recycling carts.  We ask that you help by following three simple rules when putting the things in your recycling cart.

  1. Recycle all bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard.
  2. Keep food and liquids out of the recycling.
  3. Empty recyclables directly into your recycling cart- No bagged recyclables.
If you find a red tag on your recycling cart that means that we found contaminants in your recycling. The collection truck driver will note on the red tag what materials are not acceptable. The driver will then collect the contents of the recycling cart. The following week your recycling cart will once again be checked to verify that you are no longer placing contaminates in your recycling. If contaminants continue to be found, your cart will again be red-tagged and the contents of the cart will not be collected. Contaminated recycling will then be picked up on your next regular service day provided that the unacceptable materials have been removed from the recycling cart.
